Solo Firing

I am resting today after wood firing a load of pots.
The wood, this time, was a really good batch......with a lot of walnut, oak, and maple, and only a few poplar logs.
Burn times were longer and the stoking cycle lengthened accordingly.  I'm very anxious to see how it all went.

After three hours with the passive dampers out, I did my usual heavy reduction with them back in for the last few stokes........then left primary air open for about 25 minutes to allow full burning of last stoke.......then closed everything up to begin the cooling process.
Cone 12 went down with a long soak at that temperature.  A number of pots made with clay dug at Stancill's Mine were in the batch.  Some were rather large and I am anxious to see how they worked out.

When I fire, I try to concentrate only on the firing process and forget the individual pots in the kiln.  Their fate was largely determined during the loading process.  The only thing I can do at this point is to fire in a way that seems appropriate to the pots.

I will follow up with some photos and a review of results soon.
